MEN'S RESULTS
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- The Georgia State track and field teams won seven events at the Gem of the Hills Invitational on Saturday as the women's team finished second out of 15 teams, while the men's team placed fifth out of 15 squads.
The women's team finished the meet with 173.50 points, while the men produced 60 points.
Claiming the victories for GSU were Anna Sinclair (1,500m), Alison Bishop (3,000m Steeplechase), Shaquita Young (High Jump), Yolanda Berryhill (Shot Put and Discus), Chris Harper (5,000m) and Brandon Black (3,000m Steeplechase).
WOMEN'S TEAM
The freshman Sinclair won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:48.96. Senior Danyel Mitchell placed second with a time of 4:57.03. The Smyrna, Ga., native also claimed second in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:17.86, with Jasmine Love following closely behind with a time of 2:19.10, a new season best. Freshman Madison Halls finished eighth with a time of 2:24.16.
Bishop won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:36.50, a new career best, while Katharine Showalter finished third with a time of 11:49.25.
The 4x400-meter relay squad composed of Tatiana Colbert, Brandy Swann, Leah Norman and Danielle Hill placed second with a time of 3:53.02.
Junior Zanny Anderson placed fourth in the 1,500m with a time of 5:03.18.
Kacee Houle finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:35.09. Lauren Postma placed fifth with a time of 19:12.07 and Amy French claimed seventh with a time of 19:45.01.
Tamara Moore placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.67.
Senior Lavina Dent finished second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.24, while Delecia Crawford finished eighth with a time of 16.24. Dent also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.32.
Swann finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.98, while Hill claimed eighth with a time of 25.59. Hill also finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.23.
In the field, Young won the high jump, her second of the outdoor season, with a leap of 1.75m (5-08.75 ft).
Berryhill won her third and fourth events in three weeks, this time claiming the shot put title to go along with a third-straight discus crown. She has now won the discus two straight years and owns the meet record. The Leesburg, Ga., native won the shot put with a toss of 13.59m (44-07.00 ft) and the discus with a hurl of 45.56m (149-06 ft). Berryhill also finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.11m (148-00 ft).
Sydney Henry and Brittany Rhea finished sixth and seventh with throws of 11.89m (39-00.25 ft) and 11.63m (38-02.00 ft), respectively, in the shot put. Rhea finished sixth in the hammer with a toss of 38.80m (127-03 ft), while Henderson finished seventh with a throw of 35.95m (117-11 ft).
In the discus Kesean Henderson finished seventh with a throw of 31.32m (102-09 ft).
Jacia Montgomery placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.51m (18-01.00) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.71. Latricia Jackson finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.40m (17-08.75 ft).
MEN'S TEAM
On the men's side, the Panthers claimed first and second in the 5,000-meter run as Harper won the event with a time of 16:01.21 while Tyler Tomy followed closely behind with a time of 16:04.27.
GSU placed the top three in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as B. Black, Warren Enriquez and Julian Black all finished together in times of 10:27.69, 10:27.78 and 10:38.31. Brandon's time was a career best.
Michael Dampier placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a new career-best time of 1:58.69.
Freshman Shyam Kapadia finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:13.64.
Kasey Rollins placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.49 and also finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23:34.
J. Black, Dampier, B. Black and Alex Gainous ran a season best in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:30.51, finishing ninth.
The Panthers will take a week off from action before traveling to Auburn, Ala., for the War Eagle Invitational April 15-16.
