Walker Sets Program Record at Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM Ala.-- Keniya Walker claimed a program record and the Georgia State Track and Field team combined for seven first-place finishes at the Samford Bulldog Invitational on Friday afternoon.
 
Junior Keniya Walker set a Georgia State school record with her time of 54.44 in the 400-meter race to win the event title. She threw in another first-place finish in the 200-meter running it in 24.25 seconds to complete what was a historic afternoon for the sprinter.

Zayna Fray (weight throw, 18.86m), Jayla Kennedy (60-meter, 7.48), Maya Anderson (60-meter hurdles, 8.53), Ana Cubillo (1 mile, 4:58.20), and Destinee Frink (3000-meter, 10:33.14) all came away as top finishers in their respective events as well. Fray notched her fifth-straight weight throw title, leaving her undefeated in the event this season. 
 
Jayla Kennedy earned another top five finish with her second-place time of 24.51 seconds in the 200-meter. Jae'l Dunn also placed second in her event with a personal best throw of 15.57 meters in the weight throw.
 
The Panther claimed three third-place finishes with Kevell Byrd being responsible for two of them after her times of 24.67 seconds in the 200-meter and 56.44 in the 400-meter. Laila Reeves brought in another third-place after a 15.18 meters weight throw.
 
Kaitlyn Jones ran the best time of her career with a 57.23 400-meter, earning her a fourth-place finish. Dania Staley created a path for her to finish fourth in the 200-meter after running it in 24.76 seconds. Kinsley Williams rounded out the top five for Georgia State after placing fifth in the weight throw (13.93m).

-Gabrielle Keys placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 5.04 meters
-Nova Rhodes finished eighth in the long jump with a distance of 5.04 meters
-Paxton Kirby placed eighth in the 5000-meter with a time of 19:57.00
-Janiyah Alibey placed eighth in the 400-meter with a time of 59.21
-Justein Whyte finished eighth in the 200-meter with a time of 25.39
-Destinee Frink finished eighth in the 1 mile with a time of 5:16.13
-Laila Reeves placed eighth in the shot put with a distance of 11.09 meters
-Mencia Maruri placed ninth in the 1 mile with a time of 5:16.19
-Asia Bryant finished ninth in the shot put with a distance of 10.64 meters
-Jayda Shelton ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.54 meters
-Charlotte Tooze finished 10th in the 5000-meter with a time of 20:20.19
 
Georgia State heads to the Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 23-24 for a chance to earn conference titles to close out the indoor season.
