BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-- The Georgia State track and field team capped indoor competition at the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships with three podium performance, multiple scoring finishes and a historic program record performance at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Tuesday afternoon.
PODIUM FINISHES:Â
Junior sprinter Kevell Bryd and
Maya Anderson led the way for the Panthers, both finishing runner-up in their respective events. Bryd finished with a 54.45 time in the 400-meter dash, and Anderson had an 8.34 time in the 60-meter hurdles to claim second in the conference.Â
Sophomore sprinter
Jayla Kennedy grabbed a third-place finish in the women's 60-meter dash, clocking a 7.38 time in the championship final after qualifying with a 7.39 in preliminaries.
PROGRAM RECORD PERFORMANCE:
Junior distance runner Ana Cubillo delivered one of the most significant performances in program history in the women's mile. Cubillo recorded a 4:54.21 time to finish fourth overall in the mile event and mark a new Georgia State program record, surpassing the previous school mark while competing in the championship final against the conference's top distance runners.
TRACK FINALS:Â
Keniya Walker finished seventh overall in the 400-meter dash with a 1:08.27 time. Her 55.85 preliminary time qualified her for finals.
Mencia Maruri and Destiny Frink represented Georgia State's distance team in the 3000-meter race. Maruri finished 16th with a 10:12.44 time while Frink finished d18th with a 10:14.01 time.Â
The Panthers' 4x400 relays team finished sixth overall with a 3:45.50 time. The Distance Medley Relay team finished 10th overall with a 12:16.63 time.Â
FIELD FINALS:Â
In the field events, senior thrower
Zayna Fray opened scoring for Georgia State with a fourth-place finish in the women's weight throw, recording a mark of 18.96 meters, narrowly missing the podium while securing a top-five conference finish.Â
Junior
Jae'l Dunn followed up with a 15.59-meter throw to place 15th, and
Laila Reeves posted a 15.16 meter throw to place 18th in the weight throws finals.Â
In jumps,
Gabrielle Key finished 16th in the triple jump with an 11.62-meter distance.Â
The Panthers open the 2026 outdoor track and field season at the Emory Spring Break Classic on March 20-21 in Atlanta, Ga.Â
