Panthers Gear Up for Sunbelt Indoor Title Chase

ATLANTA—After a successful indoor season, the Georgia State track and field program sets its sights on the Indoor Track and Field Sun Belt Championship in Birmingham, Ala. on Feb.23-24 at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Several Panthers are in contention to take home medals in their respective events with Zayna Fray leading the charge. Fray has claimed first-place in the weight throw every meet this season, while also breaking the Samford Open meet record and placing herself No. 17 in the NCAA Division 1 records with a 20.68 meter throw on Jan.17.

Keniya Walker is fresh off a 200 and 400-meter title, while setting a new record for the Georgia State Track and Field program with a 400-meter race time of 54:44.

Maya Anderson and Jayla Kennedy have both shown flawless results in their events, finishing top-three in every tournament this year, and will look to do the same back in Birmingham.

Kevell Byrd has shown out this season snagging top-five finishes in multiple events at every meet this season. She won student-athlete of the week back in the beginning of February for her results at the South Alabama Invitational on Feb.1, placing first in the 200-meter and third in the 60-meter sprint.

Ana Cubillo has been a steady presence in the distance events and will look to claim a podium spot in at least one.

The Panthers have set meet records, program records, and several personal records along the way, but they'll be looking to add even more accolades to their season with an impressive showing at the SBC Championship.
