ATLANTA -- The Georgia State track and field squads posted five victories on the weekend at the Georgia Intercollegiate.
GSU will compete next weekend at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta.
DAY TWO
Relays were the only events to take place on Saturday.
GSU's "A" team placed second in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 9:27.16. Making up that team were Jasmine Love, Danyel Mitchell, Brandy Swann and Madison Halls.
The 4x100-meter relay squad made up of Danielle Hill, Tatiana Colbert, Latricia Jackson and Tamara Moore placed fifth with a time of 48.54.
On the men's side, the 4x400m team made up of Julian Black, Michael Dampier, Brandon Black and Chris Harper finished fifth in a time of 3:32.12.
The 4x800m relay team placed third in a time of 8:03.63 behind Warren Enriquez, Julian Black, Shyam Kapadia and Chris Harper.
DAY ONE
Five victories highlighted day one of the Georgia Intercollegiate on Friday for the GSU women's team.
Junior Brandy Swann won the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.59.
Redshirt freshman Tamara Moore claimed the 100-meter hurdles title with a time of 14.22. Danielle Hill placed third with a time of 14.46, while Leah Norman finished sixth with a time of 14.82.
Senior Lauren Postma won the unseeded 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:59.41.
Fellow senior Shaquita Young won the high jump with a leap of 1.73m (5-08.00), while senior Yolanda Berryhill claimed first in the discus with a toss of 45.05m (147-10). Kesean Henderson (35.28m, 115-09) and Brittany Rhea (34.94m, 114-07) placed seventh and eighth, respectively.
Danyel Mitchell placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.23. Fellow Panther Jasmine Love finished eighth with a time of 2:21.11.
Freshman Anna Sinclair placed third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:44.31.
Senior Lavina Dent finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.82.
Three Panthers placed in the top five of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Katharine Showalter led the charge with a third place finish with a time of 11:40.86. She was followed by Alison Bishop (11:53.20, 4th) and Kacee Houle (12:02.40, 5th).
Freshman Tatiana Colbert placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.37m (17-07.50). Fellow Panther Latricia Jackson finished sixth with a leap of 5.18m (17-00.00).
Brittany Rhea hurled a career best in the shot put (12.44m, 40-09.75) to place third. Senior Yolanda Berryhill (12.32m, 40-05.00) and sophomore Sydney Henry (12.26m, 40-02.75) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Henry's throw was a career best.
Berryhill finished off her day with a second place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.37m (155-05). Henderson finished sixth with a toss of 41.28m (135-05), a new personal best, while Rhea placed eighth with a toss of 38.91 (127-08).
On the day Berryhill placed first in the discus, second in the hammer throw and fourth in the shot put.
On the men's side junior Chris Harper ran a career best in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:59.48.
In the unseeded 1,500m, Shyam Kapadia finished second with a time of 4:09.61. Fellow freshman Chris Manning placed sixth with a time of 4:20.25, while Michael Dampier placed eighth with a time of 4:23.10.
A trio of Panthers placed in the top eight of the 3,000m steeplechase. Tyler Tomy (6th, 10:09.04), Julian Black (7th, 10:30.77) and Brandon Black (8th, 10:35.25) all crossed the line in order.
Freshman Cory Smith placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.38m (20-11.25). Fellow freshman LaSalle Ledlum placed eighth with a leap of 5.96m (19-06.75).
