Track & Field Members Make Push for NCAA Regional Berth

COMPLETE RESULTS

CLEMSON, S.C. -- With the NCAA East Regionals coming up the last weekend in May, the Georgia State women's track and field team looked to make one final push to qualify individuals for the three-day event that will be held May 26-28 at the University of Indiana. Several student-athletes took part in Clemson University's Final Qualifier meet that was held this Saturday, May 14.

Junior Angelia Nugent broke her own school record in the triple jump for the second week in a row as she finished second with a leap of 12.70 meters (41-08.00 feet).

Brandy Swann set a new career best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.60 to place fifth.

Danyel Mitchell also placed fifth in the 800-meter run, as she set a new personal best with a time of 2:12.66.

Senior Yolanda Berryhill claimed second in the discus with a hurl of 45.99m (150-11 ft).

Lavina Dent placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.54.

Nugent also finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.82m (19-01.25 ft).

If the final NCAA selections were made today, GSU would have four performers take part in the NCAA Regionals with a fifth almost assuredly moving in, with dropouts occurring due to injury. In the NCAA field are Danielle Hill (400m Hurdles), Shaquita Young (High Jump), Nugent (Triple Jump) and Berryhill (Discus). Swann sits one spot out of automatically qualifying in the 400m.
