Track Finshes Final Meet Before CAA Championships

OXFORD, Miss. -- Just two weeks before the CAA Championships, the Georgia State track and field squads finished up their final tune up at the Mississippi Open in Oxford, Miss. Senior Lauren Postma won the 5,000-meter run and several student-athletes earned season and career bests to highlight the day.  

Postma won the 5,000m run with a time of 18:40.84.

Alison Bishop finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:19.61, a new career best. Katharine Showalter finished fifth in a season-best time of 11.24.91, while Kacee Houle placed seventh in a season-best time of 11:46.38. 

Senior Shaquita Young claimed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.73m.   

Yolanda Berryhill had her usual strong day, as she finished eighth in the shot put with a toss of 13.49m, second in the discus with a throw of 45.83m and ninth in the hammer throw with a hurl of 47.03m. Fellow senior Brittany Rhea upped her career best to 41.23m.  

Senior Danyel Mitchell placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a new career-best time of 2:16.04. Jasmine Love also lowered her career best to 2:16.30.

Freshman Anna Sinclair notched a season best in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:44.36. Zanny Anderson lowered her career best to 4:53.76.

Redshirt-freshman Tamara Moore placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.07. Lavina Dent also lowered her season best to 14.57.

Heptathlete Jacia Montgomery upped her long jump career best to 5.35m. She also had a season best in the javelin (28.32m).

On the men's side, Alex Gainous lowered his career best in the 100-meter dash to 10.87, while Cory Smith (11.17), Christopher Miles (11.23) and Ja'Metreus Hamilton all lowered their season bests.

Gainous also notched the best time this year for GSU in the 200-meter dash (22.24).

Kasey Rollins finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.91.

Michael Dampier placed 11th in the 800m with a time of 1:56.65. Chris Harper placed 11th in the 1,500m with a time of 4:04.31. Harper also finished 14th in the 800m with a time of 1:57.14.    

GSU placed 8-10 in the 3,000m steeplechase as Brandon Black (10:01.22), Warren Enriquez (10:01.26) and Julian Black (10:05.99) all crossed together. 

The 2011 CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place May 6-7 in Richmond, Va.
