Victories By Berryhill and Swann Highlight Day Two

ATLANTA -- Two victories highlighted the Yellow Jacket Invitational for the Georgia State track and field squads. Senior Yolanda Berryhill (discus) and junior Brandy Swann (400-meter dash) won events. The Panther women's team produced three more second-place finishes, a third-place spot and a pair of fourth-place efforts in Saturday's events.

Berryhill won the discus with a hurl of 46.78m (153-06 ft), her second victory in as many weeks in the event.

The Leesburg, Ga., native also finished second in the shot put with a toss of 13.76m (45-01.75 ft), while Brittany Rhea followed right behind in third place with a toss of 12.09m (39-08.00 ft). Sydney Henry placed fifth with a toss of 11.78m (38-07.75 ft). 

Swann ran a new season best in winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.17.

Redshirt freshman Tamara Moore finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.08. Danielle Hill placed fourth with a season-best time of 14:35, while Leah Norman placed seventh with a time of 14.97 and Lavina Dent placed eighth with a time of 14.99.

Hill also placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.41, a season best. Dent placed fourth with a time of 1:04.18, while Leah Norman finished fifth with a time of 1:04.95, both season bests.  

Moore also tallied a season best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.33.

Senior Danyel Mitchell finished fifth in 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:17.85. Jasmine Love (2:20.38) and Madison Halls (2:23.61) also ran season bests and finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Emilie Somerville also ran a season best with a time of 2:32.19.  

Former Panther standout Tamika Kinchen won the 800 with a time of 2:08.84.

Katharine Showalter placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:48.99.

The 5,000-meter run on Friday night produced three personal bests and two season bests. Leading the charge for the Panthers was freshman Anna Sinclair who finished fourth with a personal-best time of 17:34.48. Sophomore Alison Bishop ran a personal-best time of 18:15.03, nearly 1:30 lower than her previous career best, placing her eighth. Junior Zanny Anderson lowered her personal best to 18:37.62, while Amy French (19:35.93) and Andrea Rodriguez (20:56.10) both notched season bests.

Senior Shaquita Young placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters (5-05.00 ft).

On the men's side, Michael Dampier turned in a season best in the 800m with a time of 2:01.22. Chris Manning also lowered his season-best time to 2:06.08.

Junior Chris Harper lowered his career best in the 1,500-meter run to 3:59.35.

Freshman Warren Enriquez placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:05.99. Brandon Black finished eighth with a time of 10:24.15.
