Mobile, Ala. - The No. 64 Georgia State women's tennis team swept South Alabama, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. Junior Martina Ondrackova clinched the match at No. 5 singles.
Georgia State improved to 12-3 with one match remaining before the conference tournament.
With the Panthers leading 3-0, Ondrackova clinched the match at No. 5 singles after winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, against Bridgette Gale.
Georgia State won all three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead in the match. Ondrackova and Kir Kemp, playing together for the first time this season, won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Tereza Lerova and Katerina Gresova, also playing together for the first time this season, won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Maryna Kozachenko and Abigail Tere-Apisah, ranked No. 67 nationally, finished the sweep by winning 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
Tere-Apisah gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead after winning at No. 1 singles, improving to 11-1. Tere-Apisah won the first set 6-3 before Katie Welch retired.
Freshman Othilia Lindqvist won in straight sets at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0, against Julia Ivanova. Lindqvist improved to 5-4 in singles.
After Ondrackova's clincher, Kozachenko picked up a victory at No. 3 singles to improve to 9-5 in singles. Kozachenko was trailing 3-6, 2-3, before Chane Hines retired.
Gresova pushed the lead to 6-0 after winning at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2, against Jess Courtnell to improve to 8-6 on the season.
In the final match of the day Lerova won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3, against Alina Volman to raise her record to 8-7.
Georgia State heads to Jacksonville, Fla., to face Jacksonville on April 10 at 3 p.m.
