Richmond, Va. - The No. 65 Georgia State women's tennis team fell to No. 37 VCU, 5-2, in a Colonial Athletic Association match Saturday in Richmond.
Junior Kir Kemp and freshman Abigail Tere-Apisah won singles matches for the Panthers (11-3).
With VCU (16-3) leading 3-0 overall in the match, Ana Bara defeated Maryna Kozachenko at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Rams.
Georgia State lost the doubles point to fall behind 1-0 in the match. Kozachenko and Tere-Apisah won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles to give the Panthers their lone victory.
The Rams took a 2-0 lead after Daria Yakavleva won in straight sets at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3, against Martina Ondrackova.
VCU added to its lead after Josefin Hjertquist won in straight sets at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4, against Tereza Lerova.
After Bara's clincher, her sister Alex Bara won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-3, against Katerina Gresova.
Tere-Apisah gave the Panthers a point at No. 1 singles with a three set win, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3), against Kateryna Yergina. Tere-Apisah has won three straight matches to improve to 10-1 in singles.
In the final match of the day, Kemp earned a three-set victory at No. 6 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Kemp has won four straight matches and has a team-leading 11-3 record in singles.
Georgia State is idle until April 2, when the Panthers travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to face South Carolina State at 1 p.m.
