ATLANTA - The Georgia State women's tennis team (6-0) won its sixth straight match with a 6-1 victory over Georgia Southern (3-2) Sunday at Piedmont Park. Freshman Maryna Kozachenko clinched the match with a straight sets win at No. 3 singles.
Georgia State swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to take down the Eagles.
With the Panthers leading 3-0 in the match, Kozachenko won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, over Ashley Hungerford, at No. 3 singles. Kozachenko, from the Ukraine, remains undefeated with a 6-0 record.
Georgia State won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Abigail Tere-Apisah/Maryna Kozachenko won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. Katerina Gresova/Othilia Lindqvist won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Finally, Tereza Lerova/Kir Kemp won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles to remain undefeated at 5-0 overall.
Freshman Abigail Tere-Apisah gave the Panthers a 2-0 advantage after winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
Junior Martina Ondrackova followed with a straight sets victory at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
After Kozachenko's win at No. 3 singles, Georgia Southern earned a point at No. 6 singles in straight sets.
Sophomore Tereza Lerova survived a second set tiebreaker to win, 6-1, 7-6 (5), at No. 1 singles. Junior Kir Kemp won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 4 flight.
Georgia State returns to action next weekend when they play at Troy on Feb. 25.
