Kinchen's CAA Record in 800 Highlights Day One

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Georgia State senior Tamika Kinchen qualified first in the 800-meter run with a CAA Championship record time of 2:08.91, to highligh day one for the Panthers at the 2010 CAA Championships held in Fairfax, Va.

The time bested the old mark of 2:09.12 by George Mason's Michelle Ballentine set back in 1998.

Senior Janel Blancett earned All-CAA honors in the 5,000-meter run, as she finished second with a time of 16:53.51, a new season best.

In the 100-meter dash, senior Kendra LaFleur qualified first with a time of 11.67, while freshman Rickola Smith qualified eighth, with a time of 12.17. LaFleur came back later in the evening to qualify second in the 200-meter run with a season-best time of 24.14.

A pair of Panthers qualified for the final of the 1,500-meter run. Kinchen, who qualified third with a time of 4:34.82, and Blancett, who qualified 10th with a time of 4:36.59, each advanced to Saturday's final.

Freshman Danielle Hill qualified eighth for the 100-meter hurdle finals, with a time of 14.67, a new season best. Hill also qualified first in the 400-meter hurdles with a new season-best time of 1:00.43.

In the 400-meter run, sophomores Brandy Swann and Angelia Nugent qualified fifth and sixth, respectively, for Saturday's final. Swann finished in a time of 56.27, with Nugent closely behind at 56.43.

Freshman Gabby Brooks scored the first points for the Panthers at the championships, placing sixth in the long jump with a leap of 5.62 meters, a new season best for a GSU long jumper.

The women's team concluded day one in a tie for seventh place with 11 points.

On the men's side, freshman Karl Williams qualified fifth for the 100-meter dash final with a time of 10.80.

Senior Loris Hutterli placed seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a new season-best time of 14:48.01, to give the Panthers their loan two points on the day.

The men's team finished the day in seventh place.

Day two gets underway at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put.
