CLEMSON, S.C. -- Georgia State junior Brandy Swann won the 500-meter run at the Orange and Purple Winter Classic as the Panthers' track and field teams kicked off the indoor season on Saturday.
After suffering an injury-plagued sophomore campaign, Swann started off the season on a good note, winning the event in a time of 1:16.60.
In other track events, Danyel Mitchell placed sixth in the mile run with a time of 5:30.94, while Tamara Moore placed ninth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.93.
In the field events, Gabby Brooks placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.61 meters. Talia Colbert came in seventh place in the long jump with a jump of 5.28 meters, while Jacia Montgomery placed eighth with a jump of 5.24 meters.
Senior Yolanda Berryhill had a strong meet, finishing fifth in the shot put (11.82m) and sixth in the weight throw (14.08m). Brittany Rhea placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 11.71m and seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 12.53m.
On the men's side, the meet was highlighted by Kasey Rollins' eighth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.35. LaSalle Ledlum placed 12th in the long jump with a leap of 6.17 meters.
