GSU Golf Update Highlighted by Tiley's Second-Place Finish

ATLANTAFormer Georgia State All-American Steven Tiley tied for second on the European Challenge Tour to highlight an impressive weekend of Panther golf.

Tiley shot a final 72 to finish 15-under at the Scottish Hydro Challenge in Aviemore, Scotland, finishing in a four-way tie for second. He nearly doubled his total earnings for the year. Tiley was tied for the lead entering the final round following a third-round 63 that included an opening nine 29. The second-place finish is worth around $25,000 in American dollors.

The Englishman entered the week No. 34 on the European Challenge Tour money list and should move inside the top 15. At the end of the season, the top 15 automatically qualify for the European PGA Tour in 2014.

Stateside, rising junior Damon Stephenson shot a final-round 74 to tie for 10th at 4-over at the Greystone Invitational in Birmingham. One of the premier amateur events in the southeast, the Greystone annual hosts a who's-who list of golfer at Greystone Golf & Country Club.

Already this summer Stephenson tied for third at the Yahama Atlanta Open, shooting 69 in the rain-shortened event.

Rising junior Davin White shot a final round 76 to tie for 34th also at the Greystone, finishing at 9-over. It was his third top-35 finish of the summer, already finished tied for 17th at the Southeastern Amateur and tied for 26th at the Palmetto Amateur.

White will play in the prestigious Dogwood Invitational this week at Druid Hills Country Club. The event features many of the top amateurs in the country.

Incoming freshman Nathan Mallonee opened the Greystone Invitational on Thursday with a first-round 72, but stumbled in the second round to just miss the cut by one stroke.

Jonathan Grey, who earned all-america status last week, shot a second round 72 at the British Amateur last week, but did not qualify as one of the top 64 golfers to match play that concluded Sunday.

Professionally, Jonathan Fricke tied for 17th at the Mimosa Hills Open on the eGolf Professional Tour on Friday. Fricke shot back-to-back rounds of 67 to finish the three-round event at 6-under. In six events this year, Fricke has earned $9,500 to stand No. 46 on the money list.

In the same event, Alan Fowler shot 1-under in the first two rounds, but missed the cut by just a stroke as he made his eGolf pro debut.

This coming week, recent graduate Clemens Dvorak will make his professional debut on the European Challenge Tour at the Karnten Golf Open in St. Veit-Langsee, Austria. Dvorak has played for the Austrian National Team and made his professional debut two weeks ago after graduating from Georgia State in May.
