MYRTLE BEACH-- Georgia State men's golf claimed the team championship at the Surf Club Invitational, hosted by Appalachian State at Surf Golf & Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Tuesday afternoon.
The Panthers finished with a three-round score of 815 (274-275-266)  pulling away in the final round with a tournament-best 266 to secure the victory. Georgia State placed four golfers inside the top 15 and all five scoring players inside the top 35 in a balanced performance that powered the Panthers to the top of the leaderboard.
T2 – Connor MacMillan – 201 (-12)
Rounds: 67, 67, 67
MacMillan delivered one of the most consistent performances in the field, carding three straight rounds of 67Â to finish tied for second at 12-under par.
T4 – Cole Finch – 203 (-10)
Rounds: 70, 70, 63
Finch recorded the low round of the tournament in the final round with a 63 (-8) for the Panthers, vaulting him into a tie for fourth place.
8 – Archie Cook – 204 (-9)
Rounds: 69, 68, 67
Cook improved in each round and closed the event with a final-round 67 (-4) to secure a top-10 finish.
13 – Brody Tidwell – 207 (-6)
Rounds: 68, 70, 69
Tidwell opened the tournament strong with a first round 68(-3) scorecard to finish inside the top 15.
T33 – Matthew Calhoun – 212 (-1)
Rounds: 71, 71, 70
Calhoun's final-round 70 (-1) marked his best round of the event as he closed the tournament tied for 33rd.
Georgia State also saw a strong performance from individual competitor Cameron Jackson, who finished tied for 14th with a five-under 208 (71-72-65) score. He notched a tournament low-round in the final round to cap off the tournament for the Panthers.Â
The Panthers' strong final round and multiple top finishes secured the team title in the 18-team field, finishing three strokes ahead of Elon.
The Panthers are back in action at the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia on Monday, March 16 in Athens, Ga.Â
