AUBURN, ALA -- Georgia State sophomore
Connor MacMillan shot a 1-under par 71 in the final round for a Top 15 finish against a very strong field in the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner at the Auburn University Club.
MacMillan opened the tournament with a 73 and then rebounded from a tough second round in which he shot 81. But today's 71 moved him into a tie for 13th place at 225 (+9), seven shots off the lead.
The 7,591-yard, par-72 layout at the Auburn University Club produced tough scoring conditions. No individuals finished under par, and host Auburn, the No. 2-ranked team in the nation, shot a 4-under 284 in the second round for the only under par round by any team. The Tigers won the team title at 880 (+16), 15 strokes ahead of second-place Florida Gulf Coast.Â
Georgia State played without
Gareth Steyn, one of the Panthers' top players who competed in the PGA TOUR's Puerto Rico Open over the weekend on a sponsor's exemption.
The Panthers shot 317-318-305=940 to finish 16th.
Following MacMillan,
Jordan Jung shot 73 for the Panthers today and finished 49th.
