ATLANTA – The Georgia State men's golf team opens the 2023-24 season by hosting a strong field at the annual Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate, Friday through Sunday at The Mirabel Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate Individual Champion will earn exemption into a 2024-2025 Korn Ferry Tour season event. A representative from Korn Ferry will work with the winner to determine the event of choice.

The three-day, 54-hole event features top teams from throughout the country such as Oregon, Auburn, Houston and Ohio State. The 15 teams will play the Par 71, 7,147-yard layout at The Mirabel Club, while 36 individual competitors will compete in the Maui Jim Individual at nearby Legend Trail Golf Club. 

Georgia State has hosted this prestigious event in Arizona every year since 2016-17, except for the abbreviated 2020-21 season.

Under seventh-year head coach Chad Wilson, the Panthers are led by Connor MacMillan. The sophomore from Canton, Ga. (Woodstock High School) is coming off a strong summer, highlighted by his appearance last month in the U.S. Amateur.

Along with MacMillan and junior Jordan Jung, the GSU lineup features three newcomers, all transfers, in Ian Davis (Florida A&M), Daniel Medellin (Clayton State) and Gareth Steyn (Augusta). Senior Liam Shinn will compete as an individual.

The Panthers will tee off at 8 a.m. Arizona time on Friday and Saturday, paired with UNLV and Ohio State.
