ATLANTA -- Former Georgia State golfer JJ Grey qualified for the 123rd U.S. Open, advancing through Monday's sectional qualifier at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga.

Grey will be the first Georgia State golf alumnus to compete in the U.S. Open. Former Panther Dave Womack competed in the Masters in 2007, and several others who have played in the British Open.

Grey, who starred at Georgia State from 2012-16, shot 64-69 in the 36-hole qualifier, finishing 11-under to claim one of the three spots, along with Gordon Sargent (-13) and Kyle Mueller (-11).

He closed with a two birdies and an eagle on his final six holes.

The Kent, England, native was a four-time, first-team all-conference performer for the Panthers and the Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Year as a senior. He led the Panthers to NCAA Regionals all four years.

He turned pro after graduating in 2016 and has played on various tours, including status on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2022.

The U.S. Open is scheduled for June 15–18 on the North Course of Los Angeles Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif.
