Men's Golf Announces Pair of Signees From Australia

ATLANTA — The Georgia State men's golf program welcomes a pair of talented newcomers from Australia in transfer Gareth Steyn, the former Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, and incoming freshman Cameron Jackson.

Head coach Chad Wilson announced the signing of Steyn and Jackson for the 2023-24 season.

Steyn, from Joondalup, Perth, Australia, was the 2022 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year while playing at Augusta. He led the team with a 73.73 stroke average and was named second-team all-conference. He redshirted in 2022-23.

"We are really proud to have a player like Gareth join our team," Wilson said. "We love his approach to the game, school, life and expect him to make an immediate impact to our program. The 2021-2022 Southland Conference Freshman of the year will be one of three Australians playing for us this fall and has already played several of the courses on our 2023-24 playing schedule. It's always exciting when you have an elite amateur joining your squad and he's proven he's that through his play during his freshman year."

Jackson, from New South Wales, Australia, has enjoyed success at the junior level in Australia. Among his highlights are a runner-up finish at the Cronulla Open, a third-place showing at the Northern Territory Classic and fourtj place at the Bonville Champions Trophy.

"Cameron is a dedicated young man who consistently drives hours between Bathurst and Sydney in Australia in search of greatness," said assistant coach Josh Edgar, who recruited Jackson. "He works incredibly hard with the team around him to improve each area of his game. We are excited to have Cam join our program this fall. He has a bright future ahead of him."

Steyn and Jackson give Georgia State three signees entering 2023-24, along with transfer Daniel Medellin.
