ATLANTA – Trey Jones, who led Georgia State men's golf team to its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance, will be inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame on Dec. 9 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas as part of the 2025 class.
Jones joins a group that includes Mike Cook, who built Coastal Georgia into a consistent NAIA contender with 11 consecutive NAIA National Championship appearances, and Dale Dover, a three-time NJCAA Division II National Champion at Darton State.
Following a four-year stint as an assistant coach at Wallace State Junior College, Jones was named the head coach at Georgia State in 1995. During his eight years as head coach and Director of Golf Operations, he led the Panthers to seven team victories and the program's first three conference championships.
Jones coached nine individual medalists, including 2001 TAAC Champion Allen Thompson, along with 17 All-TAAC/All-Atlantic Sun honors, three GCAA All-America Scholar honors and 2003 PING All-Southeast Region selection Ty Harris.
While with the Panthers, Jones was a three-time TAAC Coach of the Year. His responsibilities encompassed the entire men's golf program, including budgeting, public relations, strength and conditioning, scheduling and recruiting.
Jones has served as the Florida State men's golf head coach since 2004, making 19 consecutive NCAA Regionals and qualifying for the NCAA Championship five straight years. He has been named the ACC Coach of the Year three times and has led FSU to its most team victories, 41, in program history.
Jones has been a GCAA member since 1993 and has served on multiple GCAA and other national committees, including the GCAA National Advisory Board.
In 1980, the GCAA began inducting outstanding men's college golf coaches into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame. Since then, the hall has grown to include more than 160 members. To be selected to the Hall of Fame, a coach must be nominated by their peers and then selected by the GCAA Hall of Fame Committee. Selection criteria not only include a coach's record on the golf course, but also their contributions to the game, student-athletes and the school.
