4x400 Team Finishes First at Inaugural Visit to Texas Relays

The Georgia State Track and Field team competed at the historic Texas Relays for the first time in school history March 31 – April 1.

The opening day of the meet was highlighted by the 4x400m relay team's first place finish in the open section. Imani Flanagan, Blake Blakemore, Keniya Walker, and Shadae Worrell ran a time of 3:44.29.

The team was ignited by high levels of competition and a set a school record in the 4x200m relay (1:35.34). Camarii Tellis, Imani Flanagan, Blake Blakemore, and Shadae Worrell made up the quartet that broke the record previously set in 2015.

Kayli Williams ran a lifetime best in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.17, finishing 32 out of 78 in the open section.

Chelsea Tate ran a lifetime best in the 100m dash with a time of 11.91, finishing 50 out of 127 in the open section.

Jada McBean finished 54 out of 127 in the 100m dash open section with a time of 11.94.

The 4x100m relay team of Chelsea Tate, Camarii Tellis, Jada McBean, and Blake Blakemore placed 19 overall out of 62 teams with a time of 45.42.

"It's been in the works for 4 years to bring Georgia State Track and Field to the Historic Texas Relays," says Head Coach Kyle Stevenson, "This year was the year and with the small group that we traveled, I am pleased with the performances from our Panthers.

Being able to compete against some of the nation's best outside of our region was a major challenge that I wanted them to face, and they have surpassed my expectations. The highlight of the meet so far is being number one overall in the open 4x400m relay and I hope that in the future we are accepted into the invitational section.

I'm beyond proud of this group of young ladies for their effort and competitiveness."

Next week the Panthers will compete at the USF Invite and the Spec Towns & Torrin Lawrence Invitational. Both meets take place on Saturday, April 8.
