Six Panthers on the men's soccer team were named to the 2023 Academic All-District team on Tuesday afternoon.
The 2023 Academic All-District Men's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Alex Henderson, Senior, Business Economics, 3.80 GPA
Senior Defender Henderson saw 1557 minutes on the field in the 2023 season, the second-most time played on the squad. Henderson has totaled four points and shot .429 on goal during his career as a Panther.
Off the field, the senior has accumulated numerous academic accolades throughout his time at GSU. Henderson was named to the President's List for the fall 2020 semester, as well as the Dean's List for three consecutive semesters (spring 2021-spring 2022). Henderson was also named to the 2021 Academic All-MAC team in 2021.
Shun Kushima, Junior, Marketing, 3.94 GPA
Junior transfer Kushima played in all 18 games in the 2023 season, recording one goal and averaging .333 percent in shots on goal. The midfielder matched his career highs for points (2) and goals (1) against West Virginia (Sept. 30) in his first year as a Panther.
Justin McLean, Sophomore, Marketing, 3.54 GPA
Sophomore midfielder McLean saw action in all games during the 2023 season, ranking third on the team in goals (4), and tied for the second-most points (13) on the season. McLean has posted seven goals and 12 assists, including two game-winning goals, while on the GSU men's soccer squad.
Ethan Sassine, Junior, Finance, 3.57
Forward Sassine led the Panthers in goals (7) and points (14) during the 2023 season, averaging .385 percent in shots on goal. Sassine has recorded 13 goals, including three game-winning goals, during his career at GSU.
Charlie Ward, Senior, Religious Studies, 3.77
The senior transfer recorded three points on the season, averaging .500 percent in shots on goal. The defender posted six points on his GSU career.
Dylan Williams, Junior, Interdisciplinary Studies- Biomed Studies and Enterprise, 4.0 GPA
Midfielder Williams posted four points with one goal in the 2023 season, posting a .500 shot percentage.
