No. 2 Seed Panthers Face Louisiana at Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship on Friday

ATLANTA— The Georgia State women's tennis team will compete at the 2022 Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship this weekend opening with a quarterfinal matchup versus Louisiana on Friday, April 22 at 2 p.m. ET. Having received a bye to the second round of competition, head coach Hannah Keeling and the Panthers will enter the tournament as the No. 2 overall seed.

The Panthers began the spring 2022 season coming off a two-win season a year prior. In her first year as head coach for GSU, Keeling has led the Panthers to a 16-5 regular season with a 9-1 mark in conference play, earning a share of the Sun Belt regular-season title.

GSU broke the single-season school record for Sun Belt victories by downing then No. 68 ranked UT Arlington, 4-2, earlier in the spring. The Panthers are now one win away from tying the school record for total wins in a season at 17.

Last weekend saw GSU secure a share of the Sun Belt Regular-Season Championship with a home victory over Georgia Southern on Senior Day. Following the team's ceremony recognizing seniors Eva Chivu and Andreea Stanescu, Chivu accounted for the match-clinching point at the top court as she closed out her regular season tenure with the Panthers by defeating the in-state conference rival and helping claim the regular-season title for GSU.

Chivu and Stanescu each enter the weekend tournament having garnered All-Sun Belt honors for spring 2022 as announced by the conference on Thursday. Chivu was named All-Sun Belt Singles First-Team, while Stanescu was named All-Sun Belt Singles Second-Team.

Angel Carney and No. 1 doubles partner Sofya Golubovskaya also received SBC accolades with the duo being named All-Sun Belt Doubles Second-Team. Carney additionally received SBC Player to Watch honors for 2022.

Sharing a three-way spilt for the regular season title with both UTA and South Alabama, the top-three seeding positions in the tournament were determined in a draw by Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Keith Gill on Saturday after all three-team tiebreak procedures were exhausted.

The SBC Championship will be held at Peachtree City Tennis Center in Peachtree City, Ga. on April 21-24. Matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ with live scoring provided by the conference.
