Softball Drops Pair on Final Day of Bubly Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Georgia State softball team dropped a pair of hard-fought decisions on Sunday in the final day of the Bubly Invitational hosted by Florida.

In the first game of the day, Tennessee State scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to earn a 5-4 win over the Panthers.

In the afternoon, Georgia State was done in by a seven-run second inning and fell to No. 4 Florida 8-0 in five innings.

Georgia State will next head to Athens on Wednesday to face No. 16 Georgia at 6 p.m. It is part of a stretch of seven out of 10 games against ranked opponents.

Game 1: Tennessee State 5, Georgia State 4
Tennessee State (7-11) scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to earn a come-from-behind win over Georgia State (7-10) in the first game of the Bubly Invitational on Sunday morning.

The Tigers got on the board first in the top of the fourth, but Georgia State quickly tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a single up the middle by Gabby Benson.

Tennessee State tacked on two more in the top of the fifth, but the Panthers took the lead with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Emily Brown reached on a throwing error which allowed Sophie Mooney and Chloe Middlebrooks to score and tie the game. Bailee Richardson followed with a bunt single that scored Brown to give the Panthers a 4-3 lead.

Unfortunately, the Tigers put together a rally in the seventh as Maggie Klug reached on a throwing error, scoring Lauryn Kinkle. Lauren Farias followed with a triple to left center, scoring Klug which proved to be the winning run.

Emily Buck (4-4) took the loss for Georgia State pitching 2.0 innings of relief and allowing both unearned runs.

Raven Loveless (3-6) went the distance for Tennessee State scattering seven hits over 7.0 innings.

Game 2: #4 Florida 8, Georgia State 0 (5)
After the Panthers nearly upended the Gators on Friday, No. 4 Florida came out swinging on Sunday and put up seven runs in the second inning en route to an 8-0 win over Georgia State in the final game of the Bubly Invitational.

Georgia State (7-11) managed just one hit, a Bailee Richardson single, as Florida improved to 21-1 on the season.

The Gators put up seven runs in the second inning and then added one in the bottom of the fifth on a home run by Sam Roe.

Lexie Delbrey (7-1) earned the win for the Gators going 5.0 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out seven.

Hallie Adams (1-3) took the loss for Georgia State after allowing six earned runs and eight hits in just 1.2 innings.
