Women's Tennis Secures Shutout Over Florida A&M, 7-0

Box Score ATLANTA- In the first of two matches slated for the weekend, the Georgia State women's tennis team posted a shutout over Florida A&M, 7-0, on Saturday. With the win marking the team's fourth shutout victory of the spring, GSU moves to 6-4 on the season having secured wins in six of its last seven match appearances.

GSU opened play on Saturday with a strong outing in doubles as the team secured a quick point and an early lead. Sofya Golubovskaya and Angel Carney saw yet another victory in the top position as the pair blanked opponents in the No. 1 court position, 6-0.

Singles play saw highly impressive performances across all court position as the Panthers managed to secure victories in every set of match play. This included dominant wins on court No. 5 by Carney and No. 6 by Pragnya Kumar as both players posted complete shutouts, 6-0, 6-0. Carney has now won seven consecutive matches in singles competition.

Coming off her five-hour long performance last weekend that saw the senior narrowly drop in position No. 3, Andreea Stanescu rebounded with a decisive victory, 6-1, 6-2, that gave GSU its fourth point and clinched the match. Eva Chivu saw a victory in the top position, 6-3, 6-2, and Golubovskaya won handily on court No. 2, 6-0, 6-3, as the Panthers extended the lead to 6-0.

Alexia Alvarez closed out the match for the Panthers with a win, 6-1, 7-6, earning the team its seventh point and wrapping up Saturday's match against FAMU.

GSU will return to action on Sunday against Alabama State at 2:30 p.m. ET. The Panthers will host the match at the GSU Clarkston Courts and live stats will be available.
