Women’s Tennis to Open Conference Play at Home

ATLANTA- Having won seven of its last eight matches, the Georgia State women's tennis team will host a pair of outings to open conference play. Entering the team's slate of Sun Belt competition, GSU will face Appalachian State on Sunday, March 13 at 1 p.m. ET followed by Coastal Carolina on Monday, March 14 at 11:30 a.m. ET.

GSU saw a doubleheader of home outings last weekend as the team posted shutouts over Florida A&M and Alabama State. With the wins, the Panthers have now blanked opponents in five outings and currently sit at 7-4 on the season.

Andreea Stanescu put on impressive performances in each of the team's previous two outings. Stanescu garnered Sun Belt women's tennis Player of the Week consideration for her efforts as the senior collected wins over Florida A&M, 6-1, 6-2, and Alabama State, 6-0, 6-1.

Angel Carney continues her streak of wins as the junior has now accounted for eight consecutive victories in singles play. Along with partner Sofya Golubovskaya, Carney remains unbeaten in No. 1 doubles.

Sunday's conference opening match against Appalachian State will be played at the GSU Clarkston Courts. Originally scheduled for Saturday at Peachtree City Tennis Center, the Panthers will now turnaround and host Coastal Carolina at the GSU Clarkston Courts on Monday in what will be the team's second matchup against a Sun Belt opponent. Live stats will be available for both matches.
