Men's Tennis Set for Road Match Against Furman

Greenville, S.C.- Following three-straight impressive wins at home, Georgia State men's tennis will hit the road this weekend to face Furman on Sunday, Feb. 13 at noon ET. Hoping to extend the winning streak, GSU looks to pick up another statement win as the team travels and prepares to play in the first of four consecutive matches away from home.

Coming off a come-from-behind win over Stetson this past weekend, the Panthers enter the slate of road competition with confidence and momentum.

Despite a fast start in an impressive doubles outing that saw GSU take an early lead, 1-0, the team fell behind to Stetson, 3-1, in singles play and found itself on the brink of dropping the match. The Panthers responded by securing wins on all three of the remaining courts and rallying for a win, 4-3. Among those to claim victory was Edward Tymes, who clinched the match for GSU with a thrilling three-set win, 3-6, (7-5), 6-4, in the sixth position and was subsequently named Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts and contribution to the team's third victory.

The
Panthers finding the ability to adapt and adjust has proven beneficial for the team while further strengthening the already experienced, veteran roster. Early in the season and having already faced adversity by way of injuries, lineup shifts, schedule changes and tough competition in close matches, the battle tested team gears up for yet another challenge this weekend.

Sunday will feature a tough matchup against a Furman team that, mirroring GSU, fell just one win short of a conference title last spring and has also managed to find success despite dealing with it's own fair share of early season adjustments.

Head coach Jonathan Wolff believes that his team will approach the match in the same way that the Panthers have approached competition all season— by never shying away from being tested and banding together as a collective.

"It's been an interesting start to the season," Wolff said. "We've been a bit banged up in the beginning and some other guys have had to step up— including some younger guys— but it's been great to see how they've responded and how our team has rallied around them. They've played some clutch tennis on really big points to secure some early victories. Personally, I can't wait to see what this team is made of when we can get healthy. As a coach, the goal is always to keep the team healthy, positive and motivated throughout the season. I feel that we have a lot of momentum going into our upcoming road matches, starting with a tricky indoor matchup against Furman this weekend. We're excited to hit the road and do more of the same."

The match will be played at Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. Live stats will be available.
