CONWAY, S.C. – Georgia State Men's Tennis jumped out to an early lead with a pair of doubles victories on Sunday afternoon, but eventually fell to their hosts from Coastal Carolina by a final score of 4-2.
Doubles play was a slugfest, with all three courts being decided by two points or fewer.
Gabriele Datei and
Aleksandar Andrin battled before eventually falling 7-5 on line one.
Cem Atlamis and
Arthur Attrill evened things up, taking a 7-2 tiebreaker to secure a 7-6 victory on court two.
Gustav Andersson — a hero in Friday's match at UNC Wilmington — stepped up in the clutch for the second time during the weekend trip. Andersson and his partner
Sota Minami captured a thrilling 7-6 tiebreaker to seal a 7-6 win on line three, securing the opening point of the day for the Panthers.
Minami continued his winning ways during the singles portion of the match, topping his sixth line opponent in straight sets for the Panthers' second point. Minami closed out the season with eight straight starts on the six line without a loss against his record. The rest of the Panthers, however, were unable to duplicate the success. Despite set wins from Andersson on line three and Andrin on line four, the Chanticleers swept the top four lines to defeat the Panthers by a score of 4-2.
