EL DORADO, Ark. – Freshman Elliot Anger substituted in the line-up and shot a 2-over 74 to lead the Georgia State men's golf team in the second round of the Sun Belt Championship at Mystic Creek Golf Club on Monday.
Elliot made three birdies to produce one of the best rounds of the day on a course that averaged 78.63 strokes per round.
Georgia State shot 315 on Monday and is tied for 11th place at 56-over with one round to play on Tuesday. The Panthers are 24 strokes behind Appalachian State and ULM which are both tied for fourth place 18 holes to play. The top four teams will qualify for match play with No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3 scheduled for Wednesday morning. The winners will advance to the championship match on Wednesday afternoon.
Little Rock leads the field at 23-over par thru 36 holes, as Trojan Logan Pate leads the individual race at 1-over par.
Since 1998, Georgia State has finished in the top three in the conference tournament all but five times with eight titles and eight second-place finishes.
