ATLANTA -- Georgia State women's tennis (2-10) continues Sun Belt play with a pair of matches in Alabama. First the Panthers will battle Troy Saturday before facing South Alabama Sunday. The weekend marks Georgia State's last road trip of the season.
Last weekend Georgia State fell to a pair of in-state foes in Mercer and Georgia Southern. First, the Bears came to Atlanta and came out strong, taking the doubles point. In singles action, Georgia State and Mercer would go toe-to-toe with half of the courts going to three-sets. Ultimately the Bears emerged victorious with a 4-3 result.
Sunday GSU faced in-state rival and conference foe Georgia Southern on the road. This time Georgia State came out to the quick lead, sealing the one-point edge with gritty doubles play. Eva Chivu found success in singles action on the top court, but Georgia State could not gain footing on the remaining courts. With impressive singles play Georgia Southern took the 4-2 decision.
GSU will face a Troy team that holds a 5-6 overall record. The Trojans are coming off splitting decisions with Sun Belt opponents, Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina, last weekend. Saturday's first serve is slated for 11:00 a.m. ET. Sunday, the Panthers will meet a South Alabama team which has notched an 8-4 record. Senior Yu Fujioka enters the contest as the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week. The Sunday afternoon tilt is also set for a 11:00 a.m. ET start time.
