Panthers Lead MAC with 12 All-Academic Selections

ATLANTA – Coming off one of the most remarkable seasons on the pitch in program history, the Georgia State men's soccer team continued its success in the classroom with a league-leading 12 members of the team earning Academic All-MAC honors on Thursday.

A total of 57 student-athletes throughout the league were named to the team.

Georgia State led the conference with 12 total Student-Athletes honored. Western Michigan finished close behind with 10 members.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. For Georgia State, nearly 90 percent of the student-athletes who were eligible were honored.

Georgia State's season came to an end last month falling in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 at No. 3-seed Georgetown. It came after picking up the first NCAA Tournament win in school history, a 1-0 victory at Charlotte. During the regular season, Georgia State (13-7) topped two ranked opponents in the same season for the first time in program before advancing to the MAC Tournament Championship Game.
