Fearnley Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

ATLANTA – For a second-straight year, Georgia State senior Matthew Fearnley has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team as announced by the organization on Thursday.

Fearnley became the first player in program history last season to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team honors and will once again be on the ballot for the same recognition this year.

The awards recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Georgia State was honored among District 4 honorees which includes the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, as well as Puerto Rico.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced next month.

Fearnley, who is majoring in health and physical education, was recently named one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. This season he has scored three goals and added an assist to help Georgia State (12-5) now reach the MAC Championship Game this Sunday against Northern Illinois.

Last year Fearnley was named to the 2020 All-Sun Belt First Team after he tied for the team lead with five goals in just 12 matches. Fearnley was also honored by the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Team last year and was named to the 2020 Sun Belt All-Tournament Team.

In the classroom, Fearnley also earned 2020 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American and All-Region recognition. He garnered President's List recognition last spring after earning Dean's List recognition last fall. He was also named to the 2020 spring semester President's List and has multiple other Dean's List honors.

Georgia State defeated No. 14 West Virginia 1-0 on Thursday night and will now be competing in a seventh-straight conference tournament championship game.
