Briggs Drafted in Round 3 of MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake

Briggs becomes the third Panther in the last seven years drafted to the MLS.

ATLANTA-Following an amazing three-year career at Georgia State, Aris Briggs was selected in Round 3 with Pick No. 7 (61st overall) in the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday afternoon by Real Salt Lake.

The two-time Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Briggs finished his career at Georgia State ninth in school history with 27 goals scored, despite playing just three seasons. He earned All-Sun Belt First Team honors all three years competing on the pitch, while also earning 2019 United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region First Team honors.
 
"Aris has been a huge part of our success as a program over the last few years and we are truly excited for him and his next steps," head coach Brett Surrency said. "We will always be proud to call him our own and will take a great deal of pride watching him as a professional. This past fall, Briggs earned Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and All-Sun Belt honors after standing among the national lead and conference lead in multiple offensive categories. He was a two-time Sun Belt Player of the Week and tied for the team lead with five goals scored which ranked No. 2 in the nation while leading the nation with 13 total points after recording three assists which ranked No. 6 in the nation.
 
Briggs joins former Panther Michael Nwiloh who was taken in the fourth round (59th overall pick) of the 2014 MLS Draft by Chivas USA and Aaron Jones who was selected in the second round (33rd overall pick) of the 2017 MLS Draft by the Philadelphia Union.
