ATLANTA — The Panthers will look to get on the right side of .500 in conference play when they make the trip to take on nationally-ranked Kentucky on Friday, October 31 at 7:00 p.m.
BIG GAME HUNTERS
Suddenly sitting atop the Sun Belt standings with a 6-1 record, the Wildcats are an imposing, but not unfamiliar challenge for the Panthers. The team has fared well against ranked opponents, falling on the road to Marshall, but engineering an upset over then-third-ranked West Virginia at home on October 18.
The Panthers have found their offense from unfamiliar sources in recent weeks.
Joel Gonzalez and
Dylan Williams each scored in the victory over West Virginia, while
Virgil Dall'Agnol and
Pavel Romero-Garmendia provided scores against Coastal Carolina and UCF, respectively. The four goal scorers had combined for just one tally previously. The Panthers will look to continue spreading the love against Kentucky.
Following a career-best nine saves against West Virginia,
Loan Marin struggled against Coastal Carolina but bounced back nicely against UCF, saving four of five shots to secure the 1-1 draw. He has logged 14 total saves against ranked opponents this season, and will look to continue that trend against the Wildcats.
Georgia State @ Kentucky: October 31 | 7:00 p.m. | Lexington, K.Y. | ESPN+
Kentucky enters the week as the top ranked team in the Sun Belt with a 6-1 record in conference play and an 8-2-3 record overall. Their only losses on the year came in back-to-back games against No. 17 Marshall and No. 14 Indiana. The Wildcats have bounced back nicely from that skid, securing wins against South Carolina, No. 20 Georgia Southern, and No. 10 West Virginia. Georgia State has faced Kentucky four times on the pitch and have yet to come away with a victory. During their last visit to the Bluegrass State in 2023, the teams played to the only draw in series history, with current Panther
Hideto Gondo providing an assist on one of the Panthers two scores.
