Soccer Programs Earn 2019-20 Academic Award from United Soccer Coaches

ATLANTA – The Georgia State men's and women's soccer programs were recognized by United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday as two of the 925 men and women's college soccer teams that posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the 2019-20 academic year and was named to the organization's Academic Award Winners list.

Of that total, Georgia State was one of 197 schools that had both their men's and women's programs recognized. The women's program led by Ed Joyce finished the 2019-20 year with a 3.43 team GPA, while the men's program under the leadership of Brett Surrency compiled a 3.58 team GPA for the year.

Both programs are off to remarkable starts this season as the men's squad is 2-0, including a win over South Carolina, while the women's program is 3-1, including a 2-1 start in Sun Belt Conference play.

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.

College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2019-20 academic year.

The men's program will return to action on Wednesday night hosting UAB at Center Parc Stadium at 6 p.m. The women's program heads out on the road this weekend starting at Troy on Friday night at 8 p.m.
