Briggs and Tyson Earn Sun Belt Conference Weekly Honors

ATLANTA – Georgia State seniors Aris Briggs and Paul Tyson swept the Sun Belt Conference weekly honors as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.

Briggs earned Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in his career after scoring a pair of goals against Mercer last Friday night. Briggs also was named the United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week and the TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Week.

Briggs who was named the Sun Belt Offensive Preseason Player of the Year earlier this month, got the Panthers on the board in the 10th minute with a goal.
He then provided the game-winning goal with a header into the upper right corner of the net off an assist from George Proctor in the 81st minute.

Tyson garnered Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors for the fourth time in his career. The senior recorded seven saves against Mercer while shutting the Bears out in the first half.

Tyson also garnered TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week honorable mention recognition. Prior to the season he was named to the All-Sun Belt Preseason Team as well as named one of the top 10 goalkeepers in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Georgia State returns to action on Thursday night traveling to Columbia, S.C., to face South Carolina at 7 p.m.
