Terry Thomas and
Ed Curney have been named to the 2020 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, announced today by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF).Â
The Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. An impressive 1,432 players from 364 schools qualified for membership in the Society's 14th year.
Thomas and Curney were senior stars for the Panthers in 2019, helping Georgia State to a winning season and its third bowl berth in the last five years.
Thomas, from McDonough, Ga., was a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner at defensive end, who collected 123 career tackles in 47 games, including five sacks and 11 tackles for loss. He earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 2018 and was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. He was also a semifinalist for the NFF's William V. Campbell Trophy as the nation's top football scholar-athlete.
A biological science major and Honors College student, Thomas plans to attend medical school.
Curney, an Atlanta native, was a two-year starter at inside linebacker and two-time team captain in 2018 and 2019. The Panthers' leading tackler as a junior, he was the team's second-leading tackler in 2019 with 47 stops and a team-leading 5.5 tackles for loss, through seven games but suffered a season-ending knee injury vs. Army. He finished eighth in GSU history with 186 career tackles, including 11.5 tackles for loss.
Curney earned his undergraduate degree in 2018 and completed his Master's in Education, Literacy Education in the fall of 2019.

Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have:
• Completed their final year of playing eligibility in 2019;Â
• Achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study;
• Met all NCAA- or NAIA-mandated progress toward degree requirements; and
• Been starters or significant contributors throughout the 2019 season.
