NORFOLK, Va. -- Georgia State fell 27-10 to Old Dominion on the road Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Derrick Avery Jr. snagged the solo touchdown for the Panthers to mark his career-first touchdown reception.
Jordon Simmons totaled 88 yards to lead the Panthers' ground attack in the game, picking up 5.2 yards per carry along the way. Djay Braswell also tacked on 46 yards on the ground, picking up 4.2 yards per carry.
Ted Hurst hauled in seven catches for 76 yards to surpass 1,000 season receiving yards.
Jaylen Jones showed out for the Georgia State defense, totaling seven tackles, 1.0 TFL, a career-first interception and one recovered fumble. Josiah Robinson added 13 tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack. .
The Panthers won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing two turnovers while coughing the ball up one time, with Georgia State turning those takeaways into three points.
Defensively, Georgia State held up fairly well against the Old Dominion passing attack, holding the Monarchs to 106 yards through the air. In part because of that strong defense, Georgia State receivers out-gained their Old Dominion counterparts 154-106.
How It Happened
Georgia State took a 7-0 lead over Old Dominion after scoring the game's first points with 11:26 remaining in the second quarter.The Panthers then extended the lead to 10-0 with another score. Georgia State didn't score again in the game and Old Dominion added 27 more points to finish off the scoring.
