OPELIKA, Ala. – Led by a 3-under par 69 from senior Josh Edgar, the Georgia State men's golf team shot a final round 2-over 290 to finish in 14th place at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner at Grand National Golf Club on Tuesday.
Edgar made five birdies during the final round to move into a tie for 14th place. He finished the three-day event at even par.
The Panthers garnered their best round of the week on Tuesday and finished the 54-hole event at 21-over par, one stroke ahead of No. 41 James Madison and just four strokes back of No. 45 Arkansas State and Chattanooga.
"Really proud of the way Josh and Seve played today," head coach Chad Wilson said. "Both stepped up and gave us rounds under par when we needed them. Although it is not the result on the leaderboard we wanted, we continue to improve each round and that is important this time of year. Hopefully we can use today's round to give us some momentum heading to Statesboro."
Senior Severin Soller shot a final round 2-under par 70 to finish at 8-over par and tied for 56th. Senior Egill Gunnarsson finished in a tie for 42nd at 6-over par following a final round 77. Sophomore David Li shot 75 on Tuesday and tied for 65th at 10-over par, while senior Ashton Poole shot a third-straight 76 and tied for 71st at 12-over par.
No. 15 Auburn shot a final round 11-under par 277 to finish at 10-under par for the event and earn the team title. Auburn's B-Team finished in second place at 8-under par, with ULM coming in third place at 1-over par. Kentucky finished in fourth place at 3-over par, with No. 43 Charlotte rounding out the top five at 8-over par.
North Alabama's Jackson Wedgeworth shot a final round 1-under par 71 to finish the event at 9-under par and earned a one stroke win. Auburn's C.J. Easley finished in second place at 8-under par, while Auburn's Alex Vogelsong and Louisiana Tech's Mac Murphy tied for third place at 5-under par. ULM's Otto Van Buynder rounded out the top five at 4-under par.
Georgia State will return to the course for the Schenkel Invitational hosted by in-state rival Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Golf Club beginning on Friday.
