DORADO, Puerto Rico – Led by a pair of seniors shooting even par, the Georgia State men's golf team shot an opening round 4-over 292 to sit in a tie for 11th place following the opening round of the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach.

Josh Edgar and Egill Gunnarsson both fired rounds of even par 72 to sit in a tie for 33rd with 36 holes to play on Monday and Tuesday. Edgar birdied his first three holes and finished with five on the day, but a triple bogey at the 17th (his 10th hole) derailed what could have been an under par round. Gunnarsson also finished with five birdies including his last two holes to get back to even par.

"We got off to a really good start today and made a bunch of birdies early on," head coach Chad Wilson said. "Unfortunately, we also made some big numbers and those are going to be hard to overcome regardless of how many birdies you make. We will clean some things up this afternoon and I expect us to come out and play a really good second round on Monday."

Senior Severin Soller added a 1-over par 73 with five birdies to open play tied for 48th. Fellow senior Ashton Poole along with sophomore David Li each finished with a 3-over 75 to stand in a tie for 71st.

No. 21 Louisville leads the field by seven strokes following a 19-under 269. No. 44 Kansas is in second place at 12-under par, with host UNC Greensboro in third place at 9-under par. Virginia Tech is in fourth place at 8-under par with Rutgers rounding out the top five at 5-under par. The Panthers sit just two strokes behind No. 6 Notre Dame which is tied for ninth at 2-over par.

Louisville's John Murphy, who is ranked No. 84 by GolfStat, along with Kansas' Ben Sigel each shot 65 on Sunday to stand at 7-under par and tied for first place. Louisville teammates Mathias Schmid and Keegan DeLange are tied for third place at 5-under par. A group of five golfers are tied for fifth place at 4-under par.

Live scoring of the entire tournament will be available at Golfstat.com. Georgia State will be paired with Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Indiana for the second round on Monday.

Following this week's event, Georgia State will return to the course March 8-10 at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn at Grand National Golf Club.
