Men's Soccer Runs Win Streak to Four, Tops Georgia Southern 2-0

Panthers off to best start since 2003.

Box Score ATLANTA – Georgia State ran its winning streak to four-straight matches to open the season and topped in-state rival Georgia Southern 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the GSU Soccer Complex.

Georgia State (4-0, 1-0 Sun Belt) topped Georgia Southern (1-3, 0-1 Sun Belt) for a second-straight meeting while getting off to the school's best start since 2003.
Matthew Fearnley got the Panthers on the board in the 15th minute with his third goal of the season. Senior Aris Briggs provided the assist which was also his third of the year.

It was Briggs in the 76th minute who put the Panthers ahead 2-0 on an assist from George Proctor. It was Briggs' third goal of the season.
Sophomore Gunther Rankenburg earned a second-straight shutout for the Panthers while Matthew Fearnley led the Panthers with five shots including two on goal.

MATCH NOTES
  • Georgia State extracted revenge on the Eagles who topped the Panthers at the GSU Soccer Complex last season.
  • Georgia State now leads the all-time series with the Eagles 29-11-6, including a 15-6-1 mark at home.
  • Georgia State outshot Georgia Southern 16-3.
  • This will mark the first of a home-and-home series with the Eagles this year. The Panthers will make the trip to Statesboro in two weeks.
