Edgar's 71 Leads Panthers at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C.– The Georgia State men's golf shot a 12-over 296 to move into 18th place following two rounds of the 50th annual Furman Intercollegiate on Saturday at the Furman University Golf Course.

Junior Josh Edgar led the Panthers with an even-par 71 to move into a tie for 78th at 10-over par. Edgar made four birdies and an eagle during the second round.

The Panthers improved by 17 strokes from the first round to move up one spot in the 21-team field at 41-over par.

“I was proud to see the way we bounced back today,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “We still have a lot of work to do. We made a lot of birdies today but also had too many big numbers and bogeys and we just can't do that. I feel good that we will finish strong on Sunday.”

Senior James Kyles added a 2-over 73 on Saturday and stands in a tie for 51st at 7-over par. He made five birdies during the second round. He is tied with junior Egill Gunnarsson who shot 75 during the second round.

Sophomore Owen Sertl shot a 6-over 77 on Saturday and is tied for 107th at 17-over par, while senior Severin Soller is tied for 113th at 20-over par following a second round 80.

Following a 5-under 279, Coastal Carolina leads the field at 7-under par. Davidson and host Furman are tied for second place at 1-under par, while Virginia Tech is in fourth at 5-over par. Minnesota rounds out the top five at 8-over par.

Furman's Keller Harper shot an 8-under 63 and is tied for the individual lead with Coastal Carolina's Wes Artac at 9-under par. Coastal Carolina's Zack Taylor, along with Davidson teammates Alex Ross and Hoke Carlton are tied for third place at 2-under par.

Georgia State will be paired with Wichita State and Francis Marion as part of a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. Live scoring of the entire tournament will be available at Golfstat.com.

Following this week's event, Georgia State will return to the course for the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational April 6-7, in Augusta, Ga., at Forest Hills Golf Club.
