OPELIKA, Ala. – Junior Josh Edgar extended his lead to four strokes on Monday while leading Georgia State to a second round 8-over 296 at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner.
Edgar, who shot a 2-under 70 on Monday, made five birdies during the round to move to 6-under as he looks for his first collegiate victory.
The Panthers sit in a tie sixth-place at 15-over par in the 16-team field with 18 holes to play on Tuesday.
Senior Severin Soller made three birdies on the back nine to shoot a 1-under 71 and sit in a tie for third place entering the final round.
“Josh and Severin are playing some really good golf right now,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “Both have stepped up to the challenge and are competing with some of the best golfers in the country. I look forward to seeing them finish strong on Tuesday.”
Senior Nick Budd added a second round 6-over 78 to move into a tie for 64th at 11-over par. Senior Nathan Williams shot a 5-over 77 on Tuesday and moved into a tie for 80th at 19-over par, while freshman David Li shot 82 and stands in 76th place at 16-over par.
Host Auburn, ranked No. 10 in the country, shot an impressive 8-under 280 to move into a commanding lead at 3-under par. No. 6 SMU is in second place at 6-over par, while No. 21 Arkansas State is in third place at 7-over par. South Alabama stands in fourth place at 8-over par, followed by UNCW rounding out the top five at 14-over par.
Edgar leads Auburn's Brandon Mancheno, who is ranked No. 45 in the country, by four strokes as the Tiger stands at 2-under par. Soller, along with Auburn's Jovan Rebula and Kennesaw State's Wyatt Larkin are tied for third place at 1-under par.
Georgia State will be paired with UL Monroe and Kennesaw State on Tuesday going off Hole No. 1 beginning at 8:50 a.m. ET. Live scoring of the entire tournament will be available at Golfstat.com.
Following this week's event, Georgia State will return to the course for the Schenkel Invitational hosted by in-state rival Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Golf Club March 15-17.
