Edgar Drops Two Eagles, GSU Tied for Third at Tiger Invitational

* Georgia State opened the spring season with a 7-over 295 to sit in a tie for third place at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner on Sunday.

OPELIKA, Ala. – Led by a 4-under 68 from junior Josh Edgar, the Georgia State men's golf team opened the spring season with a 7-over 295 in windy and wet conditions to sit in a tie for third place at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner.

Edgar stands in second place, just two strokes off the lead at Grand National Golf Club. He eagled both the 12th and 14th holes en route to a career-low round.

Senior Severin Soller made three-straight birdies on the back nine to shoot an even-par 72 and stand in a tie for sixth place entering the second round.

“Really proud of the way our guys played today,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “We came out with a solid plan of how to attack the golf course and did a very good job of executing it. Josh and Severin have been working really hard this offseason and it paid off today.”

Senior Nick Budd added a 5-over 77 with a pair of birdies to stand in a tie for 46th. Freshman David Li, who led the Panthers in scoring average during the fall is tied for 56th following a round of 78. Senior Nathan Williams rounded out the line-up with a 14-over 86 and stands in 83rd place.

No. 21 Arkansas State leads the 16-team field by 10 strokes following a 5-under 283. No. 10 Auburn is in second place at 5-over par. The Panthers are tied with No. 6 SMU and Mercer at 7-over following rounds of 295 on Sunday.

Arkansas State's Joel Wendin, ranked No. 93 in the country, shot an opening around 6-under 66 to lead Edgar by two strokes. UNCW's Reese McFarlane, South Alabama's Kyle Robinson, and Arkansas State's Julien Sale are tied for third place at 1-under par.

Georgia State will be paired with South Alabama and Mercer on Monday going off Hole No. 1 beginning at 9:40 a.m. ET. Live scoring of the entire tournament will be available at Golfstat.com.

Following this week's event, Georgia State will return to the course for the Schenkel Invitational hosted by in-state rival Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Golf Club March 15-17.
