Briggs, Clinton Earn United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Honors

Briggs, Clinton earn regional accolades

ATLANTA – Georgia State men's soccer standouts Aris Briggs and Kyle Clinton were selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region, the organization announced Monday afternoon.

Briggs, one of the premier goal-scorers in the country, was voted to the All-Southeast Region first team while Clinton, a former MAC Hermann Watch List candidate, landed on the second team. Together, the two helped GSU record double-digit wins for the fourth consecutive season and reach the Sun Belt Tournament championship for the fifth year in a row, making the Panthers the first team to achieve that mark since South Alabama in 1991-95.

Briggs, the 2019 Sun Belt Offensive Player of the year, netted 16 goals for the Panthers and ranks tied for seventh in scoring among all players in Division I men's soccer. The Memphis, Tenn., native finished first the conference in total points (33), points per game (1.65), goals (16) and goals per game (0.80). Briggs tallied six multi-goal performances over the course of the season – the most among all players in the Sun Belt – and has tied Tom Manget in 1972 for the ninth-most goals in a single season in GSU history.

Clinton, a two-time Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year and four-time All-Sun Belt First Team honoree, anchored a GSU back line that recorded eight shutouts this season, tied for the most among all teams in the league. The Havant, England, native appeared and started in 17 matches for the Panthers in 2019, logging over 1,600 minutes on the pitch. He was also named a to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region team in 2018.
