ATLANTA – Georgia State men's soccer had three players earn 2019 Sun Belt postseason honors, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon. Junior forward Aris Briggs was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year while Kyle Clinton earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors and Ross Finnie was selected to the Second Team All-Sun Belt.
Aris Briggs - Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Sun Belt
Not only one of the top goal scorers in the Sun Belt, but also throughout Division I men's soccer, Briggs has played a huge role in GSU's success this season. The Memphis, Tenn., native leads the conference in total points (29), points per game (1.71), goals (14) and goals per game (0.82). He led all players in Division I men's soccer in goals scored earlier this year and currently ranks ninth in goals scored in the country. Briggs has tallied five multi-goal performances – the most among all players in the Sun Belt – and is one goal shy of becoming the first GSU player to net 15 goals in a single season since Henry Musey in 1985.
Kyle Clinton - First Team All-Sun Belt
Clinton, a two-time Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year, has anchored a GSU back line that has recorded six shutouts this season, the second-most among all teams in the league, including a shutout road victory over No. 10 Charlotte in mid-October. The Havant, England, native has appeared and started in 14 matches for the Panthers this season, logging over 1,300 minutes on the pitch. He was named a 2019 Preseason All-American by College Soccer News in August.
Ross Finnie - Second Team All-Sun Belt
In his first year of collegiate soccer, Finnie has settled into a significant role in the Georgia State midfield. The Carnoustie, Scotland, native has appeared in 15 matches and started in 14 to log over 1,200 minutes for the Panthers this year and notched an assist in his season debut against UNC Asheville in early September. Finnie ranks tied for ninth in the conference with three assists and leads GSU with a .667 shot on goal percentage.
GSU (10-4-3) will face rival Georgia Southern (7-8-2) in Wednesday's opening round of the 2019 Sun Belt Tournament at 4 p.m. in Boone, N.C.
