Men's Golf Tied for Seventh at Ninth Annual Autotrader Collegiate Classic

DULUTH, Ga. – Georgia State shot rounds of 285 and 294 to stand at 3-over par and tied for seventh-place following the first round of the ninth annual Autotrader Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club.

Senior Ashton Poole led the Panthers with rounds of 66 and 76 to stand in a tie for eighth with 18 holes to play on Tuesday. Poole made six birdies during the morning round.

Lipscomb and James Madison lead the 13-team field at 15-under par, while USC Upstate is in third-place at 4-under par. Mercer stands in fourth-place at even par, with Davidson rounding out the top five at 1-over par.

Lipscomb's Nolan Ray shot rounds of 66 and 68 to stand at 10-under par and holds a one-stroke lead entering Tuesday's final round. Bison teammate Paul Swindell is tied with James Madison's George Heath for second-place at 9-under par. Boston College's Nick Cummings is in fourth-place at 5-under par, with USC Upstate's Reid Bedell and Western Kentucky's Linus Lo are tied for fifth-place at 4-under par.

“After a good start in the morning, I think we let the pressure of hosting our own event get to us in the afternoon,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “We are disappointed with where we stand, but I think we are going to use that as motivation to finish strong on Tuesday and hopefully move up the leaderboard.”

Senior Egill Gunnarsson sits in a tie for 26th at 2-over par following rounds of 72 and 74. Fellow senior Josh Edgar shot rounds of 76 and 71 to stand tied for 30th at 3-over par. Freshman Will Chambless, celebrating his 19th birthday on Tuesday, shot rounds of 71 and 77 to stand tied for 36th at 4-over par. Senior Severin Soller rounded out the line-up with rounds of 77 and 73 to stand at 6-over par and tied for 50th.

Georgia State also played four players as individuals. Junior Owen Sertl shot rounds of 73 and 76 to sit in a tie for 44th, while sophomore David Li is tied for 58th following back-to-back 76's. Junior Harry White shot rounds of 79 and 74 and is tied for 64th, while freshman Mac Thompson is 77th following rounds of 86 and 73.

The final round of the event will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Georgia State will be paired with Boston College and Southern Miss. The event is free and open to the public.

Following this week's event, Georgia State will return to the course for the final event of the fall at the White Sands Intercollegiate at the Ocean Club Golf Club in Paradise Island, Bahamas, Nov. 1-3.
