Gunnarsson's 67 Leads Panthers at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Led by a 3-under 67 from junior Egill Gunnarsson, the Georgia State men's golf team shot a second round 1-under 279 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate on Saturday at Mirabel Golf Club.

Gunnarsson made four birdies to move into a tie for 39th at even par entering Sunday's final round.

The Panthers sit in 12th-place with one round to play at 6-under par but are just two strokes out of eighth-place and five out of sixth-place with 18 holes to play.

“We got off to a little bit of a slow start today, but I like the way we rebounded on our second nine,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “Our second nine put us in position to still have a very good result this week. We are just five strokes out of sixth-place and if we can get off to a good start on Sunday, I feel like we can jump some spots on the leaderboard.”

Senior James Kyles added a 2-under 68 to move into a tie for 33rd at 1-under par. Freshman David Li added a 1-over 71 and is tied for 27th at 2-under par. Li eagled the par 5 7th hole.

Freshman Frederik Hedmark is tied for 39th at even par following a 3-over 73, while senior Nick Budd is tied for 64th at 5-over par following a 75 on Saturday.

Senior Severin Soller who is competing as an individual this week is tied for 62nd at 4-over par following a 73 on Saturday.

LSU and Arizona State will enter the final round tied for the lead at 23-under par. Georgia Tech is in third place at 21-under par, followed by NC State in fourth at 14-under par. Auburn rounds out the top five at 13-under par.

Arizona State's Chun An Yu shot 64 on Saturday to take over the individual lead at 11-under par. Clemson's Bryson Nimmer is in second-place at 10-under par with Oregon State's Shawn Lu in third at 9-under par. Georgia Tech's Tyler Strafaci and LSU's Luis Gagne are tied for fourth place at 8-under par.

Following this week's tournament, the Panthers will return to the course Oct. 1-2, for the Wolfpack Intercollegiate hosted by NC State in Raleigh, N.C.
