ATLANTA – Georgia State sophomore defender George Proctor was named Sun Belt men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Proctor played a part in both of GSU's wins last week, scoring the game-winning goal off a free kick from about 30 yards out to boost the Panthers to a 2-1 victory over Belmont and helping pitch GSU's second shutout in a 4-0 thrashing of Presbyterian.
The Leeds, England, native is part of a Georgia State back line that is ranked first in the conference with a goals against average of 0.71 and has yet to concede more than one goal in any match this season. The pair of wins extended GSU's winning streak to five games, the second time under head coach Brett Surrency the Panthers have strung together five straight wins.
Proctor became the third Panther to earn Sun Belt Player of the Week honors this year, as Lukas Joyner and Paul Tyson swept the conference awards last week. GSU is the first team this season to have the Defensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks.
Georgia State will have a chance to win six in a row for the first time since 1987 when the Panthers take on in-state foe Mercer Saturday night in Macon, Ga. Fans can follow the game via live stats.
