DALLAS- Georgia State women's tennis was defeated 5-2 by SMU on Sunday afternoon. State's comeback bid fell just short after beginning the match down a point. Senior Kristin Rehse and freshman Elizabet Danailova would earn singles wins for GSU in the loss.
The Panthers dropped the doubles point, and immediately found themselves in a 2-0 hole by virtue of a walkover loss in number six singles. GSU would show no quit as Elizabet Danailova quickly earned a 6-1, 6-0 straight set win in the two position.
State would drop the point in the five position before Kristin Rehse's 6-2, 6-4 win narrowed SMU's lead to 3-2. The comeback effort would fall just short as Daniela Ramirez fell in the three position, and Damira Muminović suffered a tiebreak loss in flight four.
With the loss Georgia State is now 7-8 on the season. Rehse's win in the one flight improved her season singles record to 10-4. The Panthers will remain in Texas to battle UT Arlington on Tuesday and North Texas on Thursday.
